A Guide to Your CARFAX Report | North Little Rock, AR

If you are in the process of purchasing a used car, it’s likely you’ve heard the term “CARFAX report” thrown around. But what, exactly, is a CARFAX report? Here, we define this report and provide you with the information you need to understand it better.

What is a CARFAX report?

A CARFAX report is essentially a deep dive into a vehicle’s history. It gathers your car’s data from different data records, including information from police departments, insurance companies, DMVs, and auction houses so that you get an understanding of a car’s past.

What is a “Clean” CARFAX report?

When a CARFAX is clean, it simply means that the report doesn’t list any significant issues. While the report isn’t labeled as “clean” specifically, you can tell that it is by looking for the right information. Check your report to make sure the car hasn’t been listed as a salvage title, hasn’t been in any major accidents, and doesn’t have flood or fire damage. Also make sure that the person listed on the title is the person selling it to you. If these requirements are met, then the vehicle has a clean CARFAX report.

What does my report have in it?

Your CARFAX will have a lot of information on it, ranging from its past accident history to its mileage. Here is what you can expect to see in your report:
  • Title information
  • Mileage
  • The number of previous owners
  • Accident and damage history
  • Ownership type
  • Any recalls or issues

What isn’t included in my report?

It’s important that you’re aware that not everything will show up on your CARFAX report. Unreported accidents won’t be included, since the police department doesn’t have a record of the incident. This is the same for accidents as repairs. If a car was in an unreported fender-bender, the auto shop might report the repair, but this won’t show up in your report.
